Jamie Carey Diary: Firecracker on the Court and Off

Sun Rookie Jamie Carey continues to share her thoughts throughout the season:

It has been a long time coming for another journal entry. I extend my sincerest apologies. But the good news; there's lots to write about now!

To start, let's take it back to July 4th! A little background: I have always lived in states where firecrackers were illegal to set off. Growing up in Colorado, with such a dry climate, I was deprived of the experience of setting off firecrackers. In fact, if we wanted to get them, I remember many of my friends driving to the Wyoming border to purchase them, which is hilarious in itself! So, this year, I was driving with Laura Summerton and a friend of mine from out of town to see if the mall was open. I looked in the parking lot and to my great surprise, there was a firecracker stand. Like a kid in a candy shop for the first time, my eyes were larger than silver dollars! I had NO clue what I was purchasing, nor did I care. I was just so excited to be able to set off a firecracker on the 4th of July! It truly is the little things in life that make it so special!

My next new experience (I promise I was not that sheltered as a child :) ) was traveling to New York City. In my humble opinion, I think everyone should experience New York at least once in their lifetime. On game days, I tend to get very antsy, so I normally just take off and walk around the various cities we're in. So I decided I needed to see Time Square. Wow. I have NEVER seen so many people crammed in such a small area in my life. It was incredible. At times, I felt a little claustrophobic. It was big, glamorous, and full of life. I am still taken aback by the experience, and am anxious to go back in a few weeks!

Following our New York game, it was time for All-Star weekend here in Connecticut. I would like to take a moment and congratulate Taj and Kesh for being selected to participate in the event. If anyone were to see how hard these two work on a daily basis, they would truly appreciate how much they deserved to be there. There are so many good players who walk into a gym on a daily basis to work on their games. But only the GREAT ones bring the entire team with them. Taj, Kesh, I want to thank you both for being GREAT, and making everyone around you better every day.

Since All-Star break, it seems like we have been on the road quite a bit. It is nice to finally be back at home for a few games! This is a stretch I think we have all been looking forward to! Playing at the Mohegan Sun is always exciting! Furthermore, the weather has been absolutely beautiful, making days by the water a daily occurrence for most of us! We are actually getting ready to go to a little team BBQ, so I am going to wrap this up. Before I do though, I wouldn't be a true Austin-ite if I did not acknowledge our home grown boy Lance Armstrong for winning his 7th Tour! I know that Austin is going crazy today and showered in yellow every where! Way to go Lance!

Until next time!

Ciao-

Jamie
