Katie Gearlds brought a well-deserved reputation as a shooter to Seattle. Gearlds set the single-season Purdue record with 88 three-pointers as a senior, also tying for the most points every scored in one year by a Boilermaker. She capped her college career by averaging 23.8 points per game in the NCAA Tournament as a senior, helping Purdue to the Elite Eight. She followed that up by defeating Seattle native Aaron Brooks to win the State Farm College Three-Point Shootout. Gearlds was a highly decorated prep player in Indiana, winning the state's Miss Basketball and MVP honors during the McDonald's High School All-American Game. The seventh overall pick by the Storm, Gearlds ranked third amongst rookies with 22 three-pointers in 2007 and finished her sophomore campaign in the league's top 10 in three-point percentage.
