The Storm filled its need for more size in the backcourt and more shooting off the bench by drafting Purdue's Katie Gearlds seventh overall in the 2007 WNBA Draft. Donovan called Gearlds, who can play guard and forward, the best shooter in college basketball in 2006-07. That need filled, the Storm looked long-term with its third-round pick, selecting Ohio State guard Brandie Hoskins. Hoskins will miss the 2007 season after tearing her left Achilles, but could have been a first-round pick before the injury and should be recovered in time for 2008 training camp.
