April 15, 2006 - The Charlotte Sting will welcome a new member to their family today as they introduce their new team mascot, Buggsy. Buggsy will make her public debut at the Charlotte Bobcats game against the Indiana Pacers tonight. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
She will spend the evening greeting fans on the concourse as well as participate in t-shirt tosses on court during timeouts in the first and third quarter.
Buggsy, with her energetic personality and crazy antics, will entertain fans and help create a family-friendly, fun atmosphere at every Sting game. She also serves as an ambassador for the newly-launched Sting Kids Club and will make numerous appearances throughout the Charlotte community.
The Sting Kids Club is open to boys and girls ages 14 and under and memberships include free admission to every Sting game (except camp days) with a paying adult, an exclusive Kids Club t-shirt as well as the opportunity to participate in a variety of game-related interactive events. For more information on the Sting Kids Club visit CharlotteSting.com/kidsclub. Memberships cost only $10 per child.
Standing 6-4, Buggsy boasts bright orange and blue fur as well as a shock of bright blue hair. Her big bug eyes illuminate when excited and her nose honks when squeezed. She never goes anywhere without wearing her favorite outfit, an extra-large bug-sized Charlotte Sting jersey which bears uniform number 10 to honor the team’s 10th anniversary season in 2006.
A native of Buggstown, USA, Buggsy graduated from N.C. Sting University. She loves watching basketball, hosting kids birthday parties, reading, dancing the worm and the jitterbug, and cheering at Sting games. Her favorite musical performers are The Beatles and Sting and she loves watching The Bugaloos, A Bug’s Life, Antz and Herbie The Love Bug.
