We are proud to recognize the City of North Miami’s outstanding Police Chief, Gwendolyn Boyd-Savage – the first and only black female in Miami’s history to advance through the entire police command structure to become a Police Chief, and also the first and only female and African-American to become a Chief in North Miami. For the past 28 years, she ahs dedicated her life to fighting crime on the streets and mentoring youths.
Beginning her career with the City of Miami as a Public Service Aide, she continued on through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Major, before being named Chief. She even has served as Vice President of Administrative Services at her alma mater, Florida International University.
With a master’s and doctoral degree, Chief Boyd-Savage has received many honors, including “101 Top Women” from Metro Magazine, “Who’s Who in African Americans,” “Distinguished Citizen Citation,” and features in magazines such as Ebony and Project Destiny. She also has received accolades for her community work from the Leukemia Society, American Heart Association, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Drug Enforcement Administration and Dade County Schools.
