MONARCHS STRUT INTO 2009 SEASON AT
ANNUAL MEET THE MONARCHS EVENT

Meet The Monarchs

With all eyes focused on their slick moves, elegant grace and passionate attitudes, the entire Monarchs team gave its fans plenty to cheer about on Sunday afternoon. However, the excitement wasn't brewing from another exciting Monarchs basketball game, but at the annual Meet the Monarchs event at Arden Fair Mall, a proud Monarchs partner.

This year's Meet the Monarchs event provided a fresh and unique vibe, as Monarchs players and coaches traded their game day wear for the latest fashions provided by stores inside Arden Fair Mall. Instead of working their moves on the basketball court, they proudly strutted down the runway for tons of cheering Monarchs fans.

"We were able to get creative and enjoyed a different environment with our fans," said Monarchs forward/center Laura Harper. "This was really fun and a chance to show our fans a different side of us."

As each smiling Monarchs player put her own spin on working the runway, Monarchs fans laughed heartily while they appreciated the energetic showcase and beautiful styles.

"I saw a lot of potential there," said Monarchs guard Ticha Penicheiro in regards to her teammates’ abilities as talented fashion models. "Events like this allow our fans to see who we are as people off the court and we’re having a great time."

In addition to looking good and loving it, Monarchs players and coaches signed autographs, took pictures and interacted with their fans, who enjoyed Monarchs gifts and the Monarchs lovable mascot, Monty. Anticipation for the 2009 Monarchs season buzzed through the crowded mall as fans traveled near and far to catch a glimpse of their favorite team.

"This was an awesome event," said Monarchs fan Amber Robertson of Sacramento. "The Monarchs are so family-oriented and they truly make Sacramento proud."

"Seeing the players up and energetic helps us get up for the season," said Monarchs MVP Larry Kieny of Esparto. "The WNBA is true basketball and this is going to be a good season!"

While the Monarchs turn their focus to Opening Day, they will fondly look back on Sunday’s event as an opportunity to spend time with their loyal supporters.

"This was my first time on the runway and it was a great experience being out here meeting fans," said Monarchs guard Charel Allen. "We've been working so hard and we're ready to improve and go further than last year."

The Monarchs open their "Lucky 13" 13th WNBA season at ARCO Arena as they take on the Seattle Storm, on June 6 at 1 p.m., PDT. Expect Great Basketball all summer at ARCO Arena and click here to buy tickets today!
