The Kings, Monarchs and Maloof Sports & Entertainment Team Members were out spreading holiday joy again Tuesday, December 19. As part of MS&E's "Season of Giving," they teamed up with Hmong Women’s Association and Centers for Fathers & Families to donate 200 holiday dinners, trees, and ornaments to families in need in the Sacramento region.
“To see the smile on people’s faces, to see how they react and how happy they are,” Corliss Williamson said. “It just sends a warm feeling through your body. During this time of year, you just want to spread as much cheer as possible.”
“It really feels good to see the smiles on their faces when they receive the trees and boxes (of food),” Williamson continued with a big smile. “And it’s great to be out here with the Kings, Monarchs and (the MS&E Team Members) who are out here helping.”
Williamson, Jason Hart and Maurice Taylor, along with Yolanda Griffith and Monarchs Assistant Coach Monique Ambers were truly enjoying their time interacting with the families.
Griffith may have been having the most fun out of all the helpers on hand. Griffith, who is known for her tenacity and focus on the court, was in a joyous mood and relished her job. She was in charge of giving people boxes of food and tapping the roof of the car when they were ready to go.
“I’m having a great time out here today,” Griffith said in-between laughs. “I tip my hat to the Maloofs for making this possible. It’s important to me to give back to those in need, especially during the holiday.”
Kings number 24, Maurice Taylor, said that giving doesn’t just make those receiving feel good, it brings great happiness to the players as well.
“It helps them, as well as you,” Taylor said on behalf of the players. “We feel privileged to be able to do something like this. During this time of year, everyone should be having a good time and memories, and we are glad that we are able to help with that.”
As for those benefiting from MS&E's Season of Giving, they truly enjoyed themselves.
“I’m having a lot of fun,” Pang Chang said cheerfully. “This is our first time seeing (the players and coach), so it’s exciting!”
As part of Maloof Sports & Entertainment's "Season of Giving," Safeway, Kings and Monarchs players, along with the Kings Women’s Organization, Slamson, the Kings Dance Team and the family of MS&E Team Members are bringing joy and donating their time to those in need across the Sacramento area during this special time of year.
