Monarchs players Hamchetou Maiga-Ba and Chelsea Newton hosted a Monarchs Fit Clinic in partnership with University of Phoenix on Monday.
Children from the City of Sacramento Childrens Services participated in a clinic that focused on providing the positive benefits of exercise, good nutrition and a positive attitude.
"Everybody was having a really good time and it was great to have two Monarchs here because the kids were just in awe of that, said Jo Hoffmeier, Vice President and Campus Director for the Northern California and Central Valley Territory of University of Phoenix. For [University of Phoenix] its just another way to give back; another way to spend a little time with the kids and with the Monarchs at a fun event.
The WNBA embraces its responsibility as the preeminent womens professional sports league with powerful role models to continue to deliver important messages and programs related to the areas of health, fitness, nutrition and self esteem.
"Its fun to see kids exercising and trying to stay fit, said Monarchs guard Chelsea Newton with a smile. You can see that they really enjoy seeing us. It gives them hope and something to look forward to thats positive.
All children were given goodie bags and other giveaway items from University of Phoenix and the Monarchs. WNBA Fit encourages teens and women of all ages to learn more about their bodies and the importance of physical fitness. Programming has been developed to encourage teens and women to get started on being fit through small changes in their daily regimen.
