Sacramento, July 17, 2007 --- As part of the WNBA’s Read to Achieve campaign, Sacramento Monarchs players Chelsea Newton and Kristin Haynie visited children from the Mutual Assistance Network of Del Paso Heights and hosted a Reading Timeout. The players read a book to the children and then hosted an interactive question and answer session. Each child received a goodie bag complete with a new book and Monarchs bookmark.
Read to Achieve is a year-round campaign to help young people develop a lifelong love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly with children. Reaching an estimated 50 million children a year, Read to Achieve is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in the history of professional sports.
