After learning about Kara Lawson's gameday routine in Friday's podcast, SacramentoMonarchs.com caught up with two of Lawson's teammates to ask them about their routines.
Do you have a gameday routine?
"I come to shootaround and then go home and eat. Then I take a nap and come to the game. I usually eat at 1 p.m., if the game is at 7 p.m."
Do you only eat one meal before the game?
"I'll have a snack or some fruit in between that time, but I can't play with my stomach full. I like to eat chicken and pasta with vegetables. When my mom is in town she cooks and I probably have pasta every day, but she diversifies it a bit more."

Do you have a gameday routine?
"After every home shootaround I go home and make myself breakfast. I make the same thing -- three strips of bacon, three eggs, two pieces of toast and grits -- every gameday. On the road I order breakfast. After breakfast I iron my clothes for the game, take a shower, not necessarily in that order, and then I journal. It's like prayer journaling. And during all of this I'm watching court TV. So I'm watching "People's Court," "Divorce Court" or "Joe Brown." It's always court TV because I dont have to think about it. It's not something that will keep me hooked where I won't want to go take a nap, but it's still pretty interesting and kind of funny. So I'm watching that while I'm cooking and getting my clothes ready for the game. Then I take a nap. Then every home game Kim (Smith) and I leave at 4:30 p.m."
Do you only eat one meal before the game?
"Yeah, and then I get to the arena. So I do my warm up thing at the arena and stretch and then at about 5:55 p.m. I go eat again, whatever they prepare."
Have you ever had a teammate that had an outrageous gameday routine?
"No, pretty much everyone just takes a nap and lays low. Most of my teammates go and eat right after shootaround, or a couple hours after shootaround if that's their one meal. I know some people have to drink a soda. Some people have to drink (energy drinks). I can't think of anyone who's had an outrageous or crazy routine."
