Analysis
The Liberty took that next big step last season by advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals. While New York ultimately lost to Detroit in three games, it showed it belonged among the top tier of teams in the East, as well as the entire league. Fans will be happy to know that the 2008 version remains nearly intact for '09, which bodes well for consistency and team chemistry, things that the team has prided itself on over the last two seasons. The only loss over the off-season was Erin Thorn, who left for Chicago via free agency. But because of New York's backcourt depth and abundance of shooters, making up for the departure of Thorn shouldn't be a problem. The area the team should be addressing by the time the draft rolls around is the frontcourt, not only because the Liberty were one of the worst rebounding teams in the league last year, but also because if they hope to topple the mighty Shock in the East, they'll need to be able to compete with them on the glass and in the paint.
